5 Questions for a Participant: How Did Ulla Experience the At-Home First Aid Course?
After postponing it for a year, Ulla finally decided to take the initiative and enroll in a first aid course for babies and children. Right at home, on her own couch. Naturally, we are curious about her opinion on the course: 5 questions for a participant.
1. Why did you choose to take a first aid course?
“My son is now 1 year old, and ever since his birth, I've wanted to take a first aid course. Yet, it never happened. I get a knot in my stomach when I think about what could happen to him. That's why I finally decided to take the step. Through Google, I found EHBO Bureau, and when I read about the at-home first aid course, I immediately started asking friends and family if there was more interest.”
2. And there was. Why did you decide to organize the course at your home?
“That's right. In the end, I gathered a nice mix of friends and family. For example, my mother-in-law who often babysits, friends who have children themselves, and a friend who is currently pregnant. The big advantage of EHBO Bureau, I find, is that the course lasts only three hours and you don't have to go anywhere: I provided coffee and cake, and Chantal from EHBO Bureau took care of the rest.”
3. How did you experience the course?
“Clear, educational, and very relaxed. Instructor Jan was to-the-point and answered all our questions. What I really appreciated was that we were allowed to practice a lot on dolls. Additionally, Jan provided practical information, also about our living situation.”
4. Can you give an example?
“Certainly. Jan noticed that in our living room, there was a large lamp right next to a cabinet with glass doors. Beautiful, but not very practical with a small child. You don't want to think about what happens if the lamp falls against the glass cabinet. Did I do something about it? Absolutely, the lamp got a different place in the house right after the course.”
5. What was a real eye-opener for you?
“I didn't know that you can hit a child so hard on the back if they are choking. And that you should also remove the diaper in case of a burn from boiling water, I had never thought about that before. These are not pleasant topics, but Jan made the course so interesting that the time flew by. Do I have any tips? No, I wouldn’t know how the course could be improved. If I had known earlier that it was so easy – right at home on my couch – I would have arranged it much sooner. Don't postpone, just do it!”
