Back to School: 3 First Aid Tips

LUNCHBOX
The holiday is over. Time for a healthy lunchbox, with a nice little tomato and grape. The above images frequently appear on social media. They look appealing and are a great inspiration to vary your lunchbox contents. However, consider the following before you toss grapes and cherry tomatoes into the lunchbox.

Did you know that children can only really chew well when they are around 5-6 years old?

If your child is choking, it is very difficult to get these cylindrical fruits and vegetables out of the windpipe. Of course, we are in favor of a healthy lunchbox. So if you follow the next tip, you can minimize the risks.

Tip: Always cut grapes and cherry tomatoes in halves or quarters. And always lengthwise. Because IF they choke, air can pass through and you can remove them more easily.

LICE
After holidays, it often seems like there are lice outbreaks because many school children are checked. Head lice don't necessarily occur more often, but they are simply discovered more frequently. Head lice are definitely not a drama, and you shouldn't blame yourself if your child has head lice. Head lice cannot transmit diseases. It is harmless but can cause a lot of itching. Scratching can lead to infections. Unfortunately, head lice cannot be prevented. However, you can minimize the risk, for example, by wearing your hair in a bun. Unfortunately, this is less easy to teach young children. They are constantly close together. Lice only move from head to head via hair. You won't find them on coats and scarves. So there is no need to buy a lice bag for clothing, hats, and scarves.

Tip: For school-going children, it is advisable to check for lice with a lice comb, so that in case of an infestation, quick action can be taken and further infestation can be prevented.
Tip: Wear hair in a bun.
Tip: Are you pregnant or breastfeeding? During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you can follow the combing treatment with conditioner. The use of anti-lice products based on malathion and permethrin is not recommended for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. We advise you to use anti-lice products based on dimethicone only in consultation with a doctor.

CYCLING TO SCHOOL
Enthusiastically and chatting away, the children cycle to school, or you rush on the first day by car to drop your child off at school. This is the reason why Veilig Verkeer Nederland always runs campaigns, because...

Did you know that after the summer holidays, almost twice as many traffic accidents occur among students as during the rest of the year?

Tip: Make sure your child leaves for school on time
Tip (for motorists): Be mindful of the exuberant children, who may pay less attention to the road due to their enthusiasm.
