First Aid Certificate for Childcare Mandatory from 2018

During the opening hours of childcare facilities, it is mandatory from January 1, 2018, for at least one adult to be present with a valid and registered first aid certificate for children. This is stated in the new Childcare Innovation and Quality Act (IKK) adopted by the Senate and House of Representatives.

Naturally, all parents want to be assured that their children are in good hands at the childcare facility. To achieve this, the government is implementing various measures. The new IKK law is an example of this. The aim of introducing this law is to improve the quality of childcare and to focus more on the development of the child.

New quality requirements
The quality requirements in childcare centers and playgroups are changing due to the IKK Act. For example, all children must have a mentor who monitors the child's development, the group size and composition must be in the correct ratio to the number of pedagogical staff, and childcare staff must have the appropriate qualifications. Mandatory first aid for children
First aid for children also plays an important role in the new law. To be able to respond adequately to incidents, the government deems it necessary for an adult with a child first aid certificate to be present at each childcare center during opening hours. Therefore, this will be mandatory from next year.
