CPR can truly save lives

Last weekend, a youth player from the Zeeburgia football club in Amsterdam collapsed on the field. Fortunately, there was a doctor on the sidelines who knew what to do: CPR. This youth player survived the incident, but unfortunately, things often go wrong.

People collapsing unexpectedly. Unfortunately, you hear these kinds of stories more and more often. Perhaps the most well-known story from last year is the tragedy of Ajax player Abdelhak Nouri, who also collapsed on the football field last July. Since then, he has been in a coma. Every day, 300 people suffer a heart attack outside the hospital. In many cases, you can save lives through CPR. Below, we explain how to do it.

Follow these steps:

  1. Check consciousness
  2. Call 112 immediately
  3. Check breathing
  4. Start with 30 chest compressions
  5. Give 2 rescue breaths
  6. Continue until the ambulance personnel tells you to stop

How do I perform CPR?

Is there no AED available? Then start with 30 chest compressions. Deliver the compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute and count out loud if necessary. After the 30 chest compressions, immediately give 2 rescue breaths. Remember to clear the airway by tilting the head and lifting the chin. Also, pinch the nose closed. Repeat the 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths until the AED arrives.

Performing CPR with an AED

With an automated external defibrillator (AED), you increase the victim's chances of survival and can often prevent permanent damage. Through the Red Cross app, you can discover where to find anAEDnear you (link to:). Follow the AED's instructions. The Red Cross madethis videoabout it with the cast of Penoza.
